Some educators teach procedures. Others change the way clinicians approach them. On 1 August, 2026, we’ll be hosting Managing Pulps & Pain in Primary Teeth, with Associate Professor Cathy Snelling and Leah Hobbs as our presenters. Both are experienced practitioners, teachers and leaders in the profession who bring decades of expertise. This is an opportunity to take part in an immersive, hands-on workshop designed to build confidence and strengthen practical skills.
At One Dental, we’re your Australian-owned provider of high-quality dental products and simulation training tools, and we’re passionate about dental education for the next generation of professionals, as well as ongoing learning for those in the industry. That’s why we host various events, workshops and courses. Here’s what you can expect from our upcoming session.
Clinical expertise itself doesn’t necessarily make someone a great teacher. But Cathy and Leah have spent years practising, educating, mentoring and supporting others in their professional development.
Both bring a broad perspective on the challenges faced by dental professionals at different stages of their careers. They make evidence-based concepts accessible and applicable in day-to-day settings and have extensive experience delivering content that is clear, engaging and easy to follow. Rather than focusing solely on theory, they explain the thinking behind treatment decisions, demonstrate how techniques translate to real situations and share practical ways to achieve consistent outcomes.
Are you confident in diagnosing and managing pulpal conditions in primary teeth? If you’d like to sharpen your approach or revisit key techniques, this is an opportunity to learn from two nationally recognised leaders in paediatric oral health and clinical education.
Cathy has been involved in dentistry for more than 30 years and continues to work in specialist paediatric practice in Adelaide, something many professionals leave behind as they move into educational roles. As a result, she teaches with the support of current examples, challenges and treatment considerations.
During her 20 years at the University of Adelaide, she even played a key role in developing and delivering the Bachelor of Oral Health program, which helped shape the education of many professionals.
Having taught oral health therapists, dental hygienists, dentists and dental assistants, Cathy knows how people learn and how to communicate complex topics in a way that resonates with different audiences. Her contribution to education has been acknowledged through a National Award for University Teaching, multiple Australian Awards for University Teaching Citations and recognition as a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. In 2021, she was also named an Honorary Fellow of the International College of Dentists.
Leah is an Oral Health Therapist and educator with qualifications in Oral Health Therapy, Public Health, Higher Education and a Master of Health Leadership and Management. She is currently completing a PhD investigating emergency dental presentations in paediatric patients, and her experience spans private practice, public health and academia.
As Deputy Chair of the Australian Dental Council Board of Directors and Chair of the ADC Accreditation Committee, Leah contributes to the standards that guide dental education and professional practice. She’s particularly passionate about improving patient outcomes, increasing oral health literacy and expanding access to care, especially for vulnerable communities.
Her interest in quality improvement is reflected throughout her work and helps inform her approach to education and professional development. Between her PhD studies and extensive experience, she recognises that treatment decisions are rarely straightforward and are often influenced by a range of clinical, organisational and patient factors.
Managing pulpal conditions in primary teeth often requires nuanced decision-making. And knowing when a pulpotomy is appropriate can be just as important as skillfully performing one. Many students learn the theory and complete simulation training during their formal education, but may have limited opportunities to revisit these procedures as they progress through their careers. Confidence comes with repetition, exposure to different scenarios and the opportunity to put knowledge into practice.
Attendees will gain practical, hands-on insight into pulpotomy techniques, including case selection, clinical protocols and expected outcomes. Learning directly from Cathy and Leah provides an opportunity to see how these procedures are performed and discussed in a clinical setting.
And rather than only completing a single exercise, participants will get to perform multiple pulpotomies and stainless steel crown placements throughout the day, which gives them time to refine their approach and build familiarity with each procedure.
Direct feedback throughout the workshop can help identify small refinements that may be difficult to recognise when learning independently.
At One Dental, we know dental skills take time and effort to master. We’re committed to dental education for students and ongoing professional development in a field that is ever-changing and highly technical. Having presenters of the calibre of Cathy Snelling and Leah Hobbs is part of what makes opportunities like this so valuable.
We’re not just a provider of high-quality dental supplies and training materials; we’re providing trusted, practical training experiences that add value to clinicians and their practices.
As an added bonus, all registered attendees will automatically go into the draw to win a complimentary three-day registration to the OHAA Conference in Tasmania.

Joanne is no ordinary entrepreneur. Long before One Dental was born, she had a vision of owning and running her own business. Two decades later, she’s thriving in a traditionally male-dominated industry.
While Joanne started as a dental therapist in the school dental service in Melbourne, she soon realised her passion for the industry extended far beyond her clinical role. She loved sales and marketing and was willing to work anywhere from administration to accounts.
“I’d work wherever in the business. It didn’t faze me. If staff were needed in the warehouse or in marketing or wherever it was, I would just put my hand up because I saw it as an opportunity to learn.”
When she saw a gap in the market, Joanne drew on her extensive knowledge and experience, assembled an amazing team, and set out to change the dental industry.
Beginning with consultancy, Joanne helped dental companies to grow their business by teaching salespeople and customer service officers how to speak to clinicians with the right lingo and product knowledge. Later, she started seeking out international products, building international relationships, and eventually creating her own products for the market.
Today, Joanne remains a hands-on leader. From product development to assembling kits, answering the phone, and even conversing with customers on the webchat, she’s as involved as ever.
Receiving the entrepreneurial grant from the Australian Government is one of the highlights of Joanne’s career. This achievement paved the way for her to introduce an innovative computer system and an e-commerce website to propel the One Dental brand further.
Juggling the responsibilities of motherhood and business ownership herself, Joanne understands the importance of work-life balance and is dedicated to offering her staff a flexible workplace. They go above and beyond for One Dental, and she does the same for them.
When she’s not at work, Joanne is still shooting for greatness, but courtside as a volunteer manager for her daughter’s basketball team. Her all-time favourite activity is wakeboarding.
