Event Description
Biological Factors in Managing Pulps in Primary Teeth Build stronger diagnostic confidence by understanding the biological factors that influence pulpal health, disease progression and treatment outcomes.
- Review the morphology and histology of primary teeth and its relevance to caries progression
- Discuss the general approach clinicians should take to maintaining pulpal health in primary teeth
- Differentiate between signs and symptoms of different types of dental pain
- List and discuss the specific factors that affect clinical decision-making and treatment
- Discuss challenges involved in accurate pain diagnosis in children and adolescents
- Differentiate between histological & clinical features of:
- a healthy pulp
- reversible pulpitis
- irreversible pulpitis
- a necrotic pulp
Clinical Management of Pulps in Primary Teeth Translate theory into practice through evidence-based treatment planning, hands-on simulation and real-world clinical decision making.
- Examine the evidence base that underpins treatment approaches to managing pulps in primary teeth
- Discuss current organisational policies and procedures relevant to primary pulp management
- Review and confirm the steps involved in performing a pulpotomy in a primary tooth
- Review and confirm which restorative approach to use in conjunction with a pulpotomy
- Complete a several pulpotomies under rubber dam in an upper and lower deciduous molar in a simulation setting on a dental manikin
- Review a series of case studies to validate and reinforce the key principles of diagnosing and managing pulpal conditions in primary teeth
Getting to One Dental
By Car:
One Dental is easily accessible via major arterial roads. Free on-site parking is available, making arrival simple and convenient. We recommend allowing additional time during peak travel periods.
I’m not sure if we have to add street parking as we would have limited parking during the week.
By Sydney Metro:
The closest station is Hills Showground Metro Station, located a short distance from One Dental. From there, it is a quick walk (15min) or short rideshare to the venue. The Sydney Metro provides frequent services connecting key areas across Sydney.
About Our Presenters
Associate Professor Cathy Snelling
Cathy Snelling has been involved in dental education for 30 years and is still active in dental therapy practice in a ‘remote’ practice in Roxby Downs in South Australia, as well as a specialist paedontic practice in Adelaide. She spent the early part of her career in public dental practice, followed by a 20-year tenure at the University of Adelaide, where she developed and contributed to the Bachelor of Oral Health program. She has also taught student dental hygienists, dentists and dental assistants and values the role of an effective dental team.
During her time as a university teacher, Cathy received many awards, including a National Award for University Teaching (2013) and Australian Awards for University Teaching Citation for Outstanding Contribution to Student Learning (2013, 2017). Her teaching philosophy incorporates a strong evidence base that she applies to contemporary clinical practice.
She is a Senior Fellow of the International Higher Education Academy, and in 2021, Cathy was made an honorary Fellow of the International College of Dentists. Cathy is looking forward to sharing her substantial experience and continuing passion in the oral health profession with her colleagues.
Leah Hobbs
Leah is an Oral Health Therapist working with Queensland Health and has previously worked in private practice and academic settings. She has qualifications in Oral Health Therapy, Public Health and Higher Education, with her thesis focusing on mentoring in the Bachelor of Oral Health Therapy program.
In 2021, Leah was elected as a director of the Australian Dental Council after completing the Queensland Health Step Up Leadership program. Passionate about improving oral health literacy and access to dental care, she works to ensure patients receive quality, safe care.
Beyond her clinical and leadership roles, Leah works with numerous organisations to improve health outcomes for vulnerable populations. In 2018, she was awarded the inaugural Dental Hygiene Association of Australia Clinical Excellence Award for the use of clinical indicators in paediatric dental care.

Cancellations made more than 3 days before the event are eligible for a full refund. Cancellations made between 3 days and 1 day before the event will receive a 50% refund. Unfortunately, cancellations within 1 day of the event are non-refundable.
