Real clinical skill is built in the moments where theory is put to the test. Those moments don’t happen by chance. The opportunity to practise properly relies on access to the right tools, equipment and environment. The Stanbury Institute of Training & Education (SITE) was created to provide exactly that.
At One Dental, we’re not just an Australian-owned supplier of premium dental products for students, educators and professionals. We’re genuinely passionate about the process behind developing clinical capability through simulation training. We’ve just launched SITE in Sydney and held our inaugural atraumatic extraction course there, with many more hands-on sessions to follow.
We’ve taken our Atraumatic Extraction of Primary Teeth & Local Anaesthesia Techniques course right across the country, but nothing compares to delivering it at home in our newest addition to the One Dental family, the Stanbury Institute of Training & Education. As always, the focus was on precision, control and a thorough understanding of technique, particularly when working with younger patients.
If you haven’t attended one of these classes yet, the program combines lectures, demonstrations and supervised hands-on training so participants can move straight from theory into practice. They can work through techniques repeatedly in a controlled setting, with direct guidance from experienced presenters, so refinement happens in real time rather than being left to interpretation.
What stood out most on the day? The level of engagement. Clinicians were asking questions, working through challenges together and making the most of time with Associate. Professor Cathy Snelling, Leah Hobbs and Joanne Stanbury. The conversations were open, and the feedback was invaluable.
Traditional learning builds knowledge. Clinical work requires applying that knowledge through physical skill and decision-making. Simulation-based training is what allows that transfer to actually happen. That’s why purpose-built spaces like SITE are designed to reflect real clinical conditions and how procedures are carried out in practice.
Through repetition comes fine motor control, confidence and consistency. Well-designed simulation stations are set up to support that by allowing multiple users to work at once, with consistent layouts, equipment and access across each station. That consistency matters because it removes variability and retains focus.
A space like this also gives training a sense of permanence. It’s not a one-off setup or a temporary arrangement; it’s something that’s been built to support this kind of work indefinitely.
At One Dental, we’re not just raising education standards through products, instruments and tools, we’re investing in the process. SITE was a long-time dream, created to be a place where education comes to life. And it’s only the beginning. We’re not stopping at one class or meeting immediate demand; this is something that will continue to grow.
Dentistry requires constant development, with skills refined over time. There’s no such thing as qualifying and moving on. SITE is designed to support that progression across all stages of a dental career. Sometimes it’s not about learning something new, but revisiting what you already know and building on it.
It also allows for learning beyond formal sessions, where ideas are exchanged, experiences are shared, and development becomes part of everyday practice rather than a one-off event.
We would like to say a heartfelt thank you to our entire One Dental community. Your support allows us to continue our mission to enhance dental education and the industry more broadly. Looking back at our inaugural event, our very popular Atraumatic Extraction of Primary Teeth & Local Anaesthesia Techniques course, there’s no better way we could have celebrated the launch of SITE and reached this milestone.
To our outstanding presenters Cathy and Leah, we couldn’t have done this without you. Thank you for being involved. And of course, to every participant, we’re so glad you were there to share this moment with us.
If you missed out, stay tuned and get ready for our next course. We promise, we’ll be raising the bar even higher.
We’re excited to have SITE live, launched, and already hosting dental education events and courses. It reflects our ongoing commitment to supporting the profession through quality products, training and exceptional customer service. This is just the beginning, and we’re looking forward to what comes next.

Joanne is no ordinary entrepreneur. Long before One Dental was born, she had a vision of owning and running her own business. Two decades later, she’s thriving in a traditionally male-dominated industry.
While Joanne started as a dental therapist in the school dental service in Melbourne, she soon realised her passion for the industry extended far beyond her clinical role. She loved sales and marketing and was willing to work anywhere from administration to accounts.
“I’d work wherever in the business. It didn’t faze me. If staff were needed in the warehouse or in marketing or wherever it was, I would just put my hand up because I saw it as an opportunity to learn.”
When she saw a gap in the market, Joanne drew on her extensive knowledge and experience, assembled an amazing team, and set out to change the dental industry.
Beginning with consultancy, Joanne helped dental companies to grow their business by teaching salespeople and customer service officers how to speak to clinicians with the right lingo and product knowledge. Later, she started seeking out international products, building international relationships, and eventually creating her own products for the market.
Today, Joanne remains a hands-on leader. From product development to assembling kits, answering the phone, and even conversing with customers on the webchat, she’s as involved as ever.
Receiving the entrepreneurial grant from the Australian Government is one of the highlights of Joanne’s career. This achievement paved the way for her to introduce an innovative computer system and an e-commerce website to propel the One Dental brand further.
Juggling the responsibilities of motherhood and business ownership herself, Joanne understands the importance of work-life balance and is dedicated to offering her staff a flexible workplace. They go above and beyond for One Dental, and she does the same for them.
When she’s not at work, Joanne is still shooting for greatness, but courtside as a volunteer manager for her daughter’s basketball team. Her all-time favourite activity is wakeboarding.
